A residence permit is a licence granting foreign citizens the right to reside in Turkey for a certain period of time. All issues related to residence permits are regulated in the Law No. 6458 on Foreigners and International Protection, and it is stated in the Law that the residence permit applications of foreign citizens consist of 6 categories and will be evaluated. The types of residence permits are listed as long-term residence permit, short-term residence permit, student residence permit, family residence permit, victim of human trafficking residence permit and humanitarian residence permit.
However, it is important to note that due to the current state of war between Ukraine and Russia, some exceptions have been granted to Ukrainian citizens regarding residence permits in Turkey.
What are the exceptions granted to Ukrainian citizens for residence permit in Turkey?
Ukrainian citizens can apply for a residence permit in Turkey only with a passport.
Despite the facilities granted to Ukrainian citizens, they do not have the right to reside in neighbourhoods where foreigners are closed to residence permits. You can access our article on the neighbourhoods where foreigners are closed to residence permits and their exceptions from the link.
Within the framework of the new regulation, there is still the possibility for Ukrainian citizens to apply for short-term tourist residence.
What are the documents required for obtaining a residence permit for Ukrainian citizens within the exception?
The positive evaluation of the application for a residence permit must include the following documents:
- Residence Permit Application Form
- 4 Biometric Photographs
However, in addition to the above-mentioned documents, in some cases, a travel plan, subsistence certificate and health insurance may be requested from the foreigner in residence permits requested for touristic purposes. Therefore, the application must include information and documents regarding the travel plan such as where and how long the foreigner will stay in Turkey.
